How much will it cost?
Before you spend countless hours analyzing equipment you aren't familiar with, contact one of our certified techs to assist you. Usedphones.com offers expert technical support for $35 per 15 minutes and includes a one year warranty on repaired equipment. We do not charge a bench fee. If your equipment cannot be fixed then you will not be charged anything.
What if I have a warranty?
If you have purchased equipment from us and the warranty is valid we will assist you at no charge. You may verify your warranty by contacting us at 800.766.3425 or cs@usedphones.com.
When I call what do I need?
When you call for service please have the following information handy:

What are the requirements for the phone system package installations?
Professional installation is required for most phone system packages. Our nationwide technician search will assist you finding an installer in your area.
Most systems require special tools and parts for installation. These are all common tools and supplies for telephone technicians. Nearly all of the packages and systems we sell require at least everything you see here to complete an installation. In addition, phone cabling will be required.

You can use our installer search to find a technician and speak with them directly to arrange an installation. Usephones.com is not affiliated with the installers listed on our site. We provide this search to assist our customer in finding a qualified company in their area.
If you are not a certified technician do not attempt to install a phone system yourself. Many people are unaware that phone systems need to be installed similar to a computer network system. The person handling the installation must have knowledge of that particular system. Some IT people can work on phone systems as well, but if that person only works on computers they most probably will not have the expertise necessary to work with phone systems (an exception to this would be for VOIP systems). Each system has its own complexities. Some systems are modular and may not require special tools or installation. Only a few systems can just be plugged in.
What else is very important to know when installing phone systems?
- It is imperative that your phone system is grounded properly. Please view our Grounding Guide for Phone System Installation for detailed information.
- A surge protector should always be used to protect electrical devices from voltage spikes.
- We strongly suggest that an Uninterruptible Power Supply be installed. An Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS), also known as a battery back-up, provides emergency power and line regulation to connected equipment by supplying power from a separate source when utility power is not available. It is recommended that the units be purchased locally because of excessive shipping costs due to weight.
My phone doesn't have a dial tone / My phone rings once and then cuts off
There are several troubleshooting steps you can take before you call in a repair that will help you save time and money.
- Make sure the phone cord is securely plugged into the phone and jack
- If you are using a cordless phone, make sure the base is plugged into an electrical outlet and the battery in the handset is good
- Plug a different phone into the jack to make sure the problem is not the phone equipment
- Plug the phone into a different jack to make sure the problem is not the jack
- Unplug all of your phones from the phone jacks for at least 15 minutes, and then plug them back in one at a time to see if you have a dial tone at any of your jacks
If you own a cordless phone, unplug it from the power supply and telephone jack. Check any equipment that may interfere with the telephone: answering machines, fax machines, caller ID units and computer modems. To check, unplug each piece of equipment from the telephone jack and electrical outlet. Leave everything unplugged for 5 minutes, then plug-in each equipment one at a time to see if the trouble persists.
Please note: Cordless phones will not work in the event of power outages.
I hear other conversations or static on my telephone line
The interference may be caused by radio frequency signals from CB radios or AM/FM stations. Sometimes your telephone equipment can act like an antenna. The installation of a modular filter, obtainable from most stores selling telephone equipment, may help. There are also a few other things you can try:
If you have a cordless phone:
- Unplug it from the telephone jack and AC outlet
- Plug in another telephone and place a call. If it works you may have a problem with your phone
- Some phones allow you to change channels and frequencies. If yours does not, you may want to repair or replace your phone
If you have a corded phone:
- Unplug it from the telephone jack and AC outlet
- Plug in another telephone and place a call. If it works you may have a problem with your phone
I'm having a problem with my phone jack or plug
If your phone is in good working order, you may have a problem with the telephone jack. Unplug the phone from the jack and plug into another jack. If your phone works on another jack, you may need to repair the jack or inside wire
